Trailer Start
Hey Guys,
I’ve got a 2013 LSV. I just changed the engine and v-drive oil, as well as the transmission fluid. If I hook up water to the engine and start the boat at home, what would happen if I put it in gear? I am thinking about letting the propeller troll at low RPM to get the fluids good and mixed in.
Thoughts?

Not a good idea. There is no resistance on the prop (water).
My Mom said I'm not allowed to get wet!

I have done this from time to time without any issue at all. There is water dripping down the shaft to keep it plenty wet and I have also sprayed some wd 40 as well just to make sure there is no friction at all. I probably wouldn't let it run for a long time but I don't think it is a problem to run it for a few minutes.

The prop turns in air on my boat while in neutral just from the hydrostatic friction.

There is a shift lock override button at your throttle. You can engage that button and move the throttle out of neutral to rev the engine without the transmission engaging.

I do a quick 15-30sec check, if you're worried spray some water on the cutless bearing, that's the only thing you can harm if you go for longer and make sure nothing hits the prop.

The packing gland needs water cooling too. Not necessary IMHO, but if you must, don't do it for more than a few seconds or more than idle speed.
