My best guess is that the added cost would take the price of the Moomba out of the desired value price range. I think the 440 is a pretty big price jump and I am sure the 460 would be a premium over that.

I could be wrong but I think the difference is the tune/ECM unless you jump to the 550/575. I noticed today that the ECM has a sticker on it saying if it is removed or tampered with the warranty is voided. Tells me there is a huge profit to protect with the ECM programming creating the additional power figures.

I think a re-prop would compensate well if more performance is needed at a fraction of the cost.

I agree, the 400 with the proper prop is best for the money. The 440 is actually only 427 ft lbs as compared to 404 in the 400. The 440 will burn more fuel while only giving marginally better performance. And yes, except for the supercharged version, its just an ecm tune.

In reality, the 440 to me (compared in 2 identical Malibu 23LSV boats) pulls enough harder to make it very nice to have. That boat loaded with a 400 was working it’s butt off. The 440 was able to stay on top better.

I was actually quite surprised.

I was actually surprised that they make a 440 and a 460, it seems like they are both so close that you could eliminate one. I am also not a fan of their name system

Raptor 400 = 350 hp and 404 lb/ft of torque, Kind of makes sense based on the torque figure
Raptor 440 = 398 hp and 427 lb/ft of torque, where do they get the number 440 from??
Raptor 460 = 410 hp and 452 lb/ft of torque, its closer to 460 torque than the 440 is to 440 I guess
Raptor 575 = 510 hp and 580 lb/ft of torque, this one kind of makes sense like the 400

They should make the 440 and the 460 the same engine. I know ECMs can recognize different fuel octanes based on knock and they can adjust themselves accordingly, the new Ford Expedition does this. It would be nice to have the more generate the 440 numbers if it recognizes 89 octane and the 460 numbers if it recognizes 93 octane.

Also it looks like the 440 and the 460 take different oil viscosities, looks like there may be more of a difference than just the tune.

400 has been plenty in our Mojo ... no elevation here.

I agree on all of what's said, I was just asking since I've built a few Moomba's and never was asked about the 460. It's my fault for just learning about it until now, I guess I can see what my dealer says. For the cost of the 440 upgrade and little performance it might be worth the 460 for us high elevation boaters. So far I have been just fine with the 400 until a large crew is assembled to wake board, surf never a problem.

I believe it may be restricted to mailbu/ other customers as a "luxury" feature. The malibus start with indmar 410's, which is likely the 400 with a slight ECM tweak. My guess is the 460 is really the 440 motor with more tuning.

Talked to my dealer and they suggested the same with the 460 being only for Malibu. A moomba at high elevation would rock with the 460.
