I feel like that’s a way over simplification of the forces at work here. If that were the case then the tow vehicle would end up lighter with the trailer than without which does not happen. What a weight distribution hitch does is reduce the vertical pivot in the ball which allows tongue weight to be shared among all 3 axles however the rear axle of the tow vehicle still carries most of the tongue weight but all of the added weight to the vehicle is supported by the hitch still. There is no way to take a 1160 lb tongue weight and get the trailer axles to support 660 lbs of it. It would be cool to see someone test all of our theories with scales though

Of course that's an oversimplification, but it's an illustration of what it does

It's been done, many times. Take a truck and trailer to the scales with a WD hitch. Weigh the rear axle with the WD bars disconnected, and then connect them and see the difference. It shifts some weight to the front axle, and the rear axle weight, as well as the weight felt by the hitch, is lessened.

this has come up a lot recently on a couple forums.
    my only learn has been:

buy a chevy you are good.
buy a ford and you are replacing the hitch.
no mention of dodge so crawl under and look. replace if only 5k..

Was a little bored during quarantine and decided to check out this forscan thing.

Made a few basic changes to my F150, I’m
still a beginner at this. If you have used it post up what changes you made. I did the following.

    1. Added the digital temperatures above the analog gauges for engine coolant and transmission

    2. Enabled the Lincoln auto fold mirrors

    3. Enabled the fog lights to stay on with the high beams

    4. Disabled the double honk when you get out of the truck with key in your pocket while it’s running

    5. Added heated/cooled seat controls to the SYNC3 home screen

    6. Changed the lane change signal from 3 to 5 flashes
