Default Best Lakes to Visit in the SE US???

Getting ready to plan a 5-7 day lake vacation and would like to try somewhere new. I'm not towing more than about 6 hours from Tallahassee so really looking for somewhere in the SE. Love Lake Martin in AL but have been there about 5 years in a row. Have also been to Lanier, Sinclair/Ocoee, Eufala, Blackshear and more in FL. Anyone who has suggestions or ideas or lives on a great lake or has visited somewhere cool I'm all ears. Thanks!

What about the PWT stop in Acworth, GA? That would be a lot of fun.

ATL lakes get pretty busy - Lanier or Altoona. If that is what you are looking for. Lived there.

North GA mountains have some no-so populated places. Easy to find lodging on the .net nowadays.

Norris Lake 880 miles of shoreline 34,000 ac of water. Might be just outside your drive window. North of Knoxville about 1/2 hour.

In Alabama, Lake Martin is about 30 to 40 min from Auburn depending on where you put in. Smith Lake is NorthWest of Birmingham. That is where I go and it is really clear, nice and lots of coves to get away from others. Can get busy in the main parts though. I also frequent Tuscaloosa Lake too. There are lots of others, but I have not been there so I really could not tell you what it is like.

+1 on this. Try here. Lots of places go stay. Clean water.

Lots of SC boats on the weekends.

Another vote for Norris Lake here. I bought my previous wake boat there and I couldn't believe how clear the water is. It's a beautiful area with very clean water that flows in from the surrounding Appalachian foothills.

Stay away from Lake Hartwell in GA..... very little traffic and mostly pontoons cruising around and fishermen. Biggest boat I have seen is a 32 foot cruiser and a few house boats.
