How could 6-10 coats of cloth be clear? The cloth is white at the outset. I watched his videos, it’s sorta cloudy/clear it appears.

Sorry to everyone about this in the classifieds. Dakota - can you start a build thread on this?

So I didn't realize that there would be so many layers of cloth. Honestly it seems a little strange. Typically if you wanted to add more strength you would change the cloth weight. Maybe reach out to him and ask if you can reduce the layers if you go to a 6oz cloth or even a 10oz Volan. Maybe he's thinking it's harder to "mold" the heavier weight glass around the curvature of the components? You aren't lapping any edges so I can't imagine it's a problem. If you reduce the layers of glass it will def. be clear and a lot less work. Solid colors will show through well. Production surfboards color is added to the foam before glassing or color is added to the epoxy while glassing not after. You can paint a board after but if you are the builder it's best to do it during the build. I would say the same applies here as well. Buy some rice paper and print some cool logos and put them on before the last layer of glass https://www.foamez.com/logo-paper-3-pack-p-300.html

I watched the four part build series and have some tips. Spread the epoxy with a plastic spreader https://www.foamez.com/flexispreader-small-p-125.html not your fingers. It will help you evenly distribute the epoxy and not end up with "wet" spots. When you cut the extra edge I would recommend doing that just after the resin isn't tacky but before it cures, while it is still flexible. It will make it 100x easier and you will end up with less sanding. Also instead of mixing fibers with your epoxy to create that paste get some “fin rope” https://www.foamez.com/fin-rope-3-fins-p-223.html . Saturate that rope in epoxy and wrap the joints. It will be soooo much cleaner in the end.
