    Default Bimini Speed

    Hey guys

I am taking our 2013 LSV on a 3 day boating trip. We are camping at a lake but the marina is about 10 miles from our camp. I'd rather not take down the Bimini each day.

How fast can I tow my boat back to camp on the road with the Bimini still up?

I wouldn't tow any faster than 35 or 40, which the boat is capable of on the water.

I think the manual says 45 mph. I have about a 2 mile drive from my storage to the boat launch, so I never take it down. I don't go over 55 mph though, and I watch it like a hawk to make sure I'm not seeing any unusual movement, especially if it's windy. I would be nervous to go over 55 mph, especially if you have a decent wind.

Agree. The guy who made mine said he would guarantee it to the top speed of the boat only.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

I tow mine a few miles. I regularly exceed 55mph but not by much. I havent seen any issues.
I never fold it up anymore.
I store it with the bimini open too.

I think it depends on the angle at which the boat is sitting. The tongue of my trailer is slightly low so the nose of my boat is slightly lower than the way it sits on the water. Because of this, the "wind" hits the top of my bimini and wants to push it down. I can only drive 25 mph with it up because of this so I almost always put it away while waiting for my wife to back the trailer down.

I have the Z5 and will tow short distances with it up. Many times at 65mph. This thread is making me nervous thinking I am causing harm to my bimini.

The z5 is quite a bit beefier than the standard bimini. I've pulled mine on the interstate hours at a time without issue. I'd be less concerned with it, compared to a normal bimini.

Yeah, z5 is a huge difference. I used to travel at 75 to 80 with mine.
