Darter - Where did this take place? Who supplied the adaptive gear? How did the kids know about the opportunity to get on the water? Tell us a little about the day. This is wonderful. Bet everyone had a great time! - Deerfield

This was in Burlington, WI on Brown's Lake. It's put on by members of the Aquaducks Ski Club as a memorial to one of their late skiers. They do free skiing lessons twice a week all summer, and 4 times a year they do adaptive skiing. Seems like they have connections with special needs services and ministries in the area. The day we were there they had a group come in the morning and another in the afternoon.

It was pretty awesome to see all these people getting out on the lake. Some were experienced and brought their own slalom sit ski. We had to train to be side skiers... Riding on those giant show skis was quite an adjustment, but really helped for support. The adaptive ski they used was called a Joski (the one pictured). The tow boat was a late sixties Correct Craft Mustang that was followed by a Hydrodyne chase boat. Apparently being an adaptive ski spotter also requires special training too as I was only allowed to spot for the regular skiers.

There were skiers of all ages. The youngest looked like maybe 4. She had a Great Dane service dog that pulled her wheelchair around. When she skied, she was so little that they had to pad the seat with an old wetsuit duct taped on so she'd fit!

Really was a great way to spend the afternoon... Might head out again next time they do it.
