Is off side wake smaller than surf side?
I'm wondering if the off side surf wake is smaller to any significant extent than the surf side.
The reason is, I ride on a fairly wide undeveloped river with woods on both sides. I usually surf regular (port) side, and thinking the surf side wave is larger, will try to stay close to that side of the river so as to throw that wave on shore and what i would think is the smaller wave across the river toward passing traffic. The problem is that I am running counter to the usual flow of traffic and some boaters don't initially realize I'm trying to do them a favor by aiming the wake away from them and are confused as to why I am on the wrong side while passing them. By the way, the river is not very busy and the area I am in is fairly deserted and I try to signal the fast moving boats to slow down in preparation to encountering my wake.
Just wondering if my efforts are necessary and side to side does not really matter.2015 Mojo Surf Edition

I do the same thing, when reasonable. Both sides are going to be pretty large to oncoming boats, though, so i don't worry about it i would be messing with the traffic flow.
My experience with other boaters ... they aren't going to know you are trying to do them a favor
