Default Bad day on the lake.

I was surfing behind the boat with my father-in-law pulling me. We were on a family camping trip at a remote Lake that we were not familiar with. He didn't see a rock/shallow bank and we ran the boat aground.

We drove the boat to the shop on the way back from the trip. So far about $1000 in brass, $3000 in Gel coat and about 3k in labor. This is just a guess from the shop. Maybe much less or more at this point. Not to mention loss of use for a month.

Thanks. We were very lucky. I had just fallen in the water, he powered off ( as I instructed ) for the turn around and then proceeded to start to turning the boat when it went aground. The boat was rocking on tracking fins and trashing about in the waves. Engine was shut off immediately. We had 12 people on board, and got 8 of the adults off and started draining the bags. We then with the help of another boater got the boat floating again in deeper water, then held the boat next to the rock bank so that everyone (grand ma) could board again. I then took the dive mask That I now keep in the boat thanks to the "Rope incident" and dove under to check things out. With the prop in relatively good form, we idled back and put it back on the trailer.

like i told my son after he told me he crashed my car...."that's why we have insurance". That really suck, hate to see that happen but a good repair shop will have things fixed like new and you will only be out your deductible and a little time on the water. Glad everyone was ok, could have been a lot worse.

Is there any cracking at the base of the fins or strut?

I did not see any cracking at the the base of the fins.

The Movement in the rudder is when I jiggle the rudder fore and aft. Not an issue with steering cable.

I just went through something similar, took the fins to a machine shop they used a hydraulic press to press the fins back to shape and I personally fixed the gouge with resin and gel coat. I would try to take it on yourself. Unless of course you're picky about color etc. Only cost me about 100 bucks and everything looks pretty damn close to perfect.

    Zk
