Default Old dogs and new tricks

After many years of being a fairly solid old school skier (slalom, doubles, tricks, kneeboard) I finally got a real ski boat. So we had to get current with a wakeboard and surfboard. Since my brain thinks my feet should be pointing in the direction I'm going, this sideways stance is like starting all over from the beginning. So I took some old kid skis and mounted some bindings from an old broken pair of tricks and WOW, I'm having fun now. So much less effort than slaloming, now I can go a while before they have to drag me back into the boat! I got some neoprene shorts and I'm going wake to wake with three point landings, and entertaining wipeouts. Kind of like being young again, now maybe I'll be looking hard at a pair of wakeskis.IMG_0316.jpg

I remember we tried to ski on anything as a kid. Flat pieces of plywood covered in Formica (before it was referred to as "laminate"). Round discs with bindings, just whatever.

This is how I grew up with skiing. It was all about finding some other way to get dragged around the lake other than a pair of skis. We've used a 3'x5' sheet of OSB sheathing, tractor inner tubes, and even a wind surf board. Our ropes were something really cheap that stretched like rubber bands. Part of the routine was learning to keep the slack out of the rope (both the rider and driver).

Ever try a boat paddle? The good old days when we could hang onto the rope no matter what the body was enduring.
