I'm going to start a new thread on this as well but thought I would share. This is my version of my surf deck, similar to 5:00's but a little wider and minus the hand holds. I couldn't bring myself to get all the way down to 53" width from the old platform of 69 1/2"...

It's still raw but sealed with 2 part marine epoxy. I plan to sand, buff and install an 'affordable' pad on it within the next 2 weeks.

It worked flawlessly last night, wave doesn't touch it at all, in fact I could make it about 2" wider on each side and still be out of the wave development. Nice long, clean wave on both sides of the boat! Thanks for the comparison template 5:00!

For the majority of our riders:

    2008 OBV
    325 EFI with closed cooling
Gravity III with 750's in the rear, 400 stock floor, 750 IBS
    Servo valve ballast upgrade
    Wetsounds Rev10
    JL Amps, WS420BT

    2000 Outback LS <-- Sold!!!
    310 Carb Direct Drive
    800# Rear Locker
750# IBS (should have kept this for the OBV)
Dual Batteries with 2 Bank Charger System
    Kenwood Head with Remotes
Too many hours restoring exterior from prior negligence to count!

Why not cover it with black epoxy for better aesthetics and protection?

That is certainly a good idea, had not given that much thought up to this point simply because I don't have any black pigment to add to my epoxy. I was planning on sanding and polishing the existing epoxy covering and then spraying an oil based with hardener gloss black coating. Epoxy might be fewer steps... Amazon here I come!

After testing mine this weekend I found it could be about 6" wider on each side. I wish I had taken a pic of the water going by it. There was about 6" between the deck and the water coming off the side of the boat. The smaller deck works fine but you are going in the right direction of the wider platform. My wife and I were both surprised how much taller the wave was without the old platform digging in. It may even save us some fuel as well? Your platform looks great, keep up the good work!

    How thick is that wood?

11/16" A-C sanded plywood, $26/sheet at my local Lowe's. Not out much money if I decide to remake it. Took about 4 hours (not including dry time) to get to what you see but now that I have the shape and the history, I think I could remake in about 2.

Can't bring myself to pay $400+ and a 3 he round trip drive for a sheet of starbord even though I love the stuff. Plus I like the platform being thicker than 1".

30" back from the transom is a lot of leverage on those mounting screws...

I used 3/4" HDPE because it was a lot more cost effective than 1".

I got a piece of black 3/4" Smooth 24" x 54" HDPE shipped to my office for $130 all in. (or I could have doubled my material and been $260 for 1.5" thickness)

24" of depth was plenty for me. my width was enough to reach to the tie down loops on the stern.

Yours looks pretty awesome though. Turned out amazing.

Thanks Trayson. I've followed many of your threads and look forward to more to come. Next time you're in the southeast drop a line, there's always a wave waiting for ya!

Several of the guys last night said it looked cool as is with the wood grain showing, I thought it was kind of ghetto myself but it was just R&D at that point. I've given some thought to making another and staining it black like Walnut then sealing it with clear epoxy. Still would stand out though and not match the jet black of the gel coat. Still undecided. I do like showing up with things that are not factory though...

Thanks. If you can make it darker, and then put some hydroturf or equivalent on it, you could sell yours easy. someone with brown interior might like that.

Then make another one in black for yourself.
