That's exactly how I broke my new boat in when I bought it in 2013. I'm a motor head and always break it in how you're gonna drive it. In my case In bought it to surf.

Read your Indmar manual. It's easy. First two hours are painful. Have fun!

Ended up with 2 hours on the Mojo, nothing like ranging it between 1 & 3,000 RPM's.

You can cruise decently fast at 3000 rpm, like 20 mph or so. What prop do you have?

Don't they run the piss out of these motors before they put them in a boat? Or have they literally not been turned on until they get to the dealer/SC? I would hope indmar puts a few hours on these guys first.

What I don't understand is how come my ford half ton can go 8000 km's before it's first oil change but the boat has to be in the first 20 hrs. I've got like 50 engine hours on the truck and I'm not even half way to the first oil change interval.

I know some fleet mechanics that swear by changing oil on new vehicles at 500-700 miles. Claim there is more wear in initial break-in than in the next 4 years of use. I do it on my new vehicles.

I heard they do give them a pretty hard run during the initial lake test.

The whole break-in thing could just be BS to get newbies to learn how to drive their boat.
