The issue I don't like with the Fake a lake/plunger is if you are in the boat and move around, that bounces the trailer. I haven't lost connection with the plunger but went with a setup using a hose connection and ball valve connected to the v drive inside the boat so I can monitor/shut it off.

I prefer to adapt the garden hose to 1-1/4" hose and attach to the V-drive inlet. There are several examples of those adapters on the forums, you'll just have to search, maybe "winterization" would help. Or just go to the hardware stare and invent it as you shop.

I do run mine out of a bucket. You would be amazed at how fast the boat sucks water. I do the bucket to make sure I'm not starving it.

I had to find a picture (of the bucket at least)
I can attach a water hose to the short lead with an on/off valve (this also lets me control the flow of the water into the bucket). I then attach the clear hose to the water intake on the side of the V drive (clear because that was all that Lowes had), and the other end I leave in the bucket to draw the water from.Matt

I've used an engine block heater with magnets to attach to the bottom of the oil pan. Plug it in for an hour and the oil can be sucked out of the dipstick or drained through the oil drain line very easily.

Current boat has a Perko Flush Pro. Simply attach the garden hose to the valve and you're good to go. no fuss.
On my last boat, there was a ball valve tee that would direct the water from the intake thru-hull or from the garden hose.
