    Default Durango as tow vehicle.

Anyone here have any experience with a 2011 or newer dodge durango? We're looking to upgrade the wife's suv and want something compact but that can still tow the craz short distances (30 miles) if need be. We have my f150 for longer trips. I know there is a v6 & V8 model, the v6 has 290hp and a 6900lb tow capacity, and the V8 7400 lbs. Any insight on this vehicle would be appreciated!

If the v8 is the hemi, the fuel efficiency is pretty bad around town. We have it in the grand Cherokee. I haven't hooked the boat up but I've wanted to. I'd lean towards it being ok for short trips.

We had an 11 Durango with the Hemi. It towed my lsv ok but I only did it a couple of times (I way preferred my 2007 Dodge Ram diesel). The nose of the boat was close enough to the rear window of the durango and it fills your rear vision. Also, the boat is physically so large and tall back there that you feel like you are being pushed by the boat. It towed the boat ok but we live in the mountains of Colorado and deal with hills a lot. We ended up getting rid of the durango, as it didn't have enough room for people in the back seats. We traded it for a 2015 Nissan Armada v8 and love that SUV. It pulls the boat like nothing and is much more manageable. I think it pulls better than the durango. We actually use the durango more than my ram 2500 now.

I will say we miss driving the durango though. That hemi got after it and the durango is low enough to the ground that you can get sporty.

Right on! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a gently used V8. They're a damn good looking suv.

I just re-read my post and found a mistake. I meant to say we actually use the armada more than the ram for towing now.

I tow my 2015 Moomba Mondo with our 2012 Dodge Durango Crew with the V6 motor. It pulls the boat just fine, you definitely know there is something behind you and the engine works a little harder and the gas mileage drops off but no issues pulling the boat. I like the Durango because I can haul a lot of people or stuff (not both) and is quiet, one of the quietest vehicles I have ever owned. It drives like a truck, which is both good and bad. I do wish the engine had more pep (like our old Honda Pilot) but this truck has a 10 times better ride than the Pilot did. Hope this helps you...

We have a Diesel Grand Cherokee and I love it.

My moms had several of the Durangos and she seems to like them, but she doesn't tow anything, and given her relationship to the dealership she's pretty biased, lol
