    Default Boat registration yearly fees

In South Carolina, I paid $300 Casual Excise Tax when I purchased the boat and a $16 transfer fee. When the current 3 year registration runs out, it's a flat $30 renewal fee.

$37 first time, $32 renewal and don't forget the trailer. since it's over 3k loaded, you need to register it. doubt you would get stopped for it as I'm still rolling my Idaho tags since they are 10 years at a time, but all it takes is once.

    Default Boat registration yearly fees

    Sandm,
Is that a fairly recent change? My 08 has never needed it and my dad has owned boats in the state for over 20 years and never needed them. I just looked it up and I see what you are referring to.

I think ours is $34.75 for renewals. I think the initial is a lot more though. Trailer is around $32.

$27 for three years in Virginia to VDIGF. You also have to pay a personal property tax to the county (which is separate) as well each year but it is pretty cheap and set on the value of boat. I have 3 PWC and the Moomba and it is VERY affordable here.

CO is a little funny. You register your trailer with the DMV, for me that is $55/year. Then, if you want to use your boat on public waterways, the registration is handled by state parks, which is about $45/year (this is based on boat type and length, not value). That's $100/year which didn't seem like robbery until I read that some of you pay $30/3 years.

Oh, I paid the sales/use tax at the time of purchase too. to the tune of 8.5% or so on the full purchase price. That said, WA doesn't have a state income tax, so I'm happy to not pay tax on my income, and if they have to get me a little on my toys, so be it.

They all get our money one way or another it just depends on the state and how they do it.
