Matman, this is as quick as I can help

Boat is 2650lbs and trailer from what I recall is around a 1000Lbs.

I would recommend at least 6000 towing ability.

Great! I just found the boat weight in a manual 02' but thanks on the trailer. curious, why the 6000 lb figure? is that including weight of vehicle?

Matman, By the time you add your fuel, boards and all of Ed's beer you would be around 5K lbs. I just like knowing when I am pulling with the vehicle it is well within it's limit for both my and others on the road safety and of course the boat's safety.

No that does not include the weight of the vehicle, truck itself.

I had a Toyota Sequoia that I used in pulling my outback. (6Klbs limit). It did fine with that boat. But the new boat is heavier and it was "okay" at pulling. I just picked up a 07 Tahoe that has 7Klbs towing limit and it is much better and it brakes better when towing.

Woldn't it help a bit to actually tell us WHICH boat you are looking for ? They vary in weight GREATLY depending on model and year. A 2006 Mobius XLV is about double a '99 Boomerang all inclusive.
The trailers weigh in at about 750# for the 19', 850# for the 20'-21' and 1100# for the 24' dualie.

You need to remember to add the weight of your fuel (full tank = 250# more), gear weight (#150 is a good estimate) , beer weight(depends on if you are taking Ed G. with you or not), etc.

The 5000-6000 towing capacity reccomended is so you are not stressing the vehicle to it's limits. It is bad to tow a 4900# weight with a 5000# towing capacity vehicle for any long distance. There is some overhead in the estimate, but a heavy rain alone can add 100# of weight, add wind resistance, etc, and you are asking for trouble. For most of these however I think a 5000# tow capacity is fine. I'd go 6000-7000 on any boat with a dualie trailer.

    Hope this helps,

    Joe
