synthetic oil for Indmar engines?

Does anybody use Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30 in their Indmar engines?

I am on my first season running synthetic. I couldn't find any reasons not to use it. I have a 99 Tahoe with basically the same engine and it has 102k trouble free miles on it.

Yeah, that was my thinking. I know the Mobil 1 synthetic is an excellent oil, but I was just worried because the manual recommends a 20w-50 oil or something like that. Mobil 1 doesn't make a 20w-50 oil that I know about, so I was wondering if the 10w-30 would be too 'thick'...

Actually, the 10w-30 oil is a little lower viscosity than the 'book' recommended 10w-40.

Other brands may make a syn in the correct grade.

Recommend Mobil 1 15W-50. Now labled under their "Extended Performance" line, we use this in our racecar engines - 4 cyl, to rotary, to V8's. Most of the time, since it's only ever in a race engine for less than 200 miles, we drain it, strain it, and use it in our street cars for 3000 miles. After my Outback's initial 100 hours I'll be switching over to the Mobil 1 15W-50. Be sure that you get the oil temp up operating range before tromping on the throttle.

I can swear by Mobil one as well - run nothing else in my cars ever - they all came from the factory w/ Mobil one in them. (Car guys just narrowed my vehicle ownership down to about a dozen possibles ) Get MUCH longer runs w/ out changing, and never once had a heat related engine problem. Hell my current toy has twice the normal oil capability (11 Qts) and w/ Mobil-One the RECCOMENDED change time is 10,000+ miles!

Actually "thick" and "thin" are harder to use when discussing synthetics - they are by nature "thin", since all the particles are the same size. But I would have to do some good research before deciding on a choice to match the recommended 40 weight.

I see Mobil-One as a very nice safety net for the times the engine MIGHT have a problem. If Indmar has no problem with it, it will be put in duing my first oil change next year. And, since regular oil has gone up in price - Synthetics now look less like a premium, and more like a no braniner.

Mobile 1 is primo for sure, Castro syn is also vg, as is Pennzoil and Havoline.

My exp is w/ Castrol and they carry multi grades in their line of syn. Very please w/ the performance.

Castrol is not a true group IV synthetic, mobil one is. But still very good. All the fully synthetic quality oils are excellent - stay away from the "blends". AmSoil is better than all of them, but at a premium I am not willing to pay just yet.
