    Default oil change

i recently bought a 2003 outback ls. it has the 310 hp motor.I will be changing the oil shortly.Indmar recommends 15w40 penzoil marine oil. The nearest place i can buy this oil is about an hour drive. the local auto parts store carries penzoil 15w40 heavy duty oil.would this be a good replacement or should i use something else.

Do a quick search on the internet for the oil you are looking for.

I was looking for the same oil this weekend, a boat store here that didnt have it said there is some sort of additive in it (smi-7 or some thing like that) so they didnt recommend regular motor oil.

Being a new boat, and to stay under Indmars 3 year warr., I would suggest staying with the recommended oil. This oil may not be carried regularly in most areas(check Wal-Mart), you can order it directly through Indmar(www.indmar.com). Brian Raymond

    Default oil change/warranty

    Brian,
Do you know if Indmar requires Pennzoil filters to be used as well? I've switched to Purolater 1 oil filters after reading some comparison test articles, but I wouldn't want to void my warranty.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Default Filter of oil

Filter brand won't be an issue, if you are happy with the one you are useing, stick with it. The main issue is recommended oil at the proper hours put on the boat. Brian Raymond
