    Default Prop Question

Is it worth spending the $$ to have a spare prop sitting on the shelf? How likely am I to damage the prop on my boat. I've not ever damaged the props on the other boats that have had but they were stern drives so I don't have any experience with inboards. Wakemakers have their stuff on sale right now but I wasn't sure it was money well spent. My boat has the 537 prop on it right now so I was thinking if I would either get another 537 to have or for a few more $ get the 1433. Seems like a lot of people have had good luck with that prop too.

It all depends on how heartbroken you would be if your prop gets damaged and your boat becomes unusable. A spare prop can save a weekend or a boating vacation. I would recommend a spare.

It's like insurance - you hope you never need it - but when you do it is nice to have. Ofcourse a second prop does you no good without a prop puller - which will be another $100-150 (I think).

One thing to keep in mind. If your prop does take a hit and is repairable, it's not like going to the ER and you are done. My experience has had the prop at the shop for several days, possibly over a week, depending on how busy they are and if they do it themselves or send it out.

If you can afford the lost day - you could wait till something happens. Then buy the new prop at the prop shop with a puller. You may not get it on sale - but you will delay the expense.
If you believe something to be true, it will be - in it's consequences.

A spare prop may be your ticket home someday besides what's the odds of not replacing your stock prop. Discussions indicate the prop replacement on the new boats is one of the first items changed out.

better to have and not need, than to need and not have

think about being on vacation and on the first day you have a prop strike, no spare and vacation is ruined.

I would look for a used prop someone on here is selling first.

My spare now, is what came standard on my 08--not the best for surfing but it will work and keep me on the water if needed

If you take a vacation planned around your boat last thing you want is a dinged prop ruining it. There's lots of ways they can get damaged. I finally damaged my 1433 last year and the boat was anchored! I would definitely upgrade and keep the stock one as a spare.

I've used my spare more times than I would've liked to, but I would've rather used it than nothing
