Removing the old ones were surprisingly easy. I just picked a corner and started to peel up. As long as you pulled fast, there was no residue left over. I used goof off to get the slight adhesive left over, took no more than 2 minutes. After I cleaned and dried the gunwales, I laid down the new pads and they look freakin awesome. Total time was 15 minutes.

Finally got around to posting a pic of the new gunwale step pads. Not only do they look great, but they do a great job of increasing safety for on/off boarding and kids jumping off the sides w/o cracking their heads open. This is a must-have for any Mondo owners that want to upgrade their boat with little investment.
