Shaft packing - what size?
I am at this moment on www.skidim.com ordering up all the new impeller, filters and general summerizing stuff and decided it was time to change the packing. I have never replaced it and the boat now has 150+ hours. What size do I use, the 3/16 or the 1/4 inch? They sell the regular stuff as well as premium. I'm thinking the premium stuff is only a couple of bucks more. It is a 2000 Outback LS. Thanks

Don't know the size but if the premium is graphite inpregnated cord get it. Spendy but worth it. No melt down with that stuff.

I agree with zabooda, to go with the graphite.
Just call Skidim and ask them. They can have it to your door in 3 days or so.

Thanks Guys, they don't specifically call it graphite impregnated. They call it GFO and it is made with Gore-Tex sealants. The description says it is 4 times better thermal conductivity so I suspect that would be from graphite. They call it "virtually drippless". I will call them. I could probably buy the same stuff from McMaster.com (the worlds best hardware store and industrial supplier) but for 11 bucks, I'd rather just get it along with the impeller and other stuff.

I emailed Skidim.com and here is what they said:
Probably 1/4". The rule is 3/16th on Correct Craft. 1/4" on everything else
unless it is a 1-1/8" drive shaft which may also take 3/16th.
I ordered it this morning.
