Battery Charging
A friend with a brand x boat was getting ready for spring and put a charger on the battery. It melted the wire on the negative cable.
Is there a specific charger for deep cycle marine batteries?
I guess yes.
Should you use a deed cycle marine battery for starting?
I guess no.
What are the odds he fried the boat electronics?
I guess low. Ignition off s/b no connection.

sd2, i use a slow trickle automatic shutoff charger that I picked up at autozone. I have used it probably a dozen or so times on my old outback and on the new boat with no problems.
hope this helps.

get a cheap automatic trickle chargeer (2 amps or less) and leave it on the battery when the boat is not in use. You can get one at walmart, auto parts store, or Harbor Freight ($6.95 on sale).....doesnt have to be marine...it has nothing to do with it.
have no idea how your friend melted his battery cable.
