Default Replace 5 pin wiring connector with 7 pin?

The 2012 boatmate trailer came with a 5 pin flat connector, and my tow vehicle has a 7 blade connection. I have been using an adapter for 2 years, but it seems to have a bad connection and one of the taillights operates only sporadically. Rather than buy new adapter, I am thinking of just re-wiring with a permanent 7 blade.....anyone else done this and anything to be aware of?

I would assume this is a 10 minute, one-beer kind of job. Thoughts?

I've done it a few times when I worked at a RV dealership..but that was about 4 years ago

I'd look up the wiring diagram..when I did would wire up the 7 way in the vehical some of the wires were not red to red or been to green and be switched around

This was one of the first things I did. I did not cut off the 5-pin connector but got the other side, wired it unto a 7-pin connector and done. This way if I needed too I could go back to the 5-pin in about 3 min. To wire up the 7-pin tool about 20 min. To connect this to the existing 5-pin connection was just back feeding the 5-pin into the hitch and plugging the connections into eachother. The last image was showing the 4-pin connector but the 5-pin connector is plugged in the same way and in the same place.

Default Replace 5 pin wiring connector with 7 pin?

This sounds exactly like my 2012 trailer. One light was very sporadic. I replaced it with this: http://goo.gl/M1VzNM

Took about 15 minutes, and has made life much easier.

Be sure to look up the wiring diagram, because the colors mean different things depending on the type of plug. A DVM also comes in handy to double check continuity.
