operating temp?
What's a good operating temp for the outback. Seems like mines running around 180-190 and when I grab the rubber hoses that the water runs through, it feels like there's barley anything running through the hoses. But if I do the fake a lake in my drive way it spits out a good amount of water..

That seams a little high. I run about 160. I would check your impeller and if you have a strainer that too. You have to remember that on a fake a lake you are forcing water into the system but at the lake the impeller is sucking water from the lake and putting it into the system.

operating temp?
Mine runs around 170... Not sure how accurate the gauge is though.

What about the actual water pump on the motor? Have you ever replaced that?

Do you have a strainer ? If so be sure the threaded fitting are sealed and do not twist ,the pump will pull air in and cause this issue , i had this problem on my 05 LS

Just had a thermostat go bad after one season only. Rare but it can happen.
It's basically just a SBC high flow style. Typically they are 160 degree so your operating range shouldn't be too far from that.So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

I have a strainer and I tighten it hand tight so I dont over tighten it and crack it. I replaced the thermostat like summers ago but I forgot what temp setting it was for..but I mean you can still run one without a stat and it would run cooler.. also I have seen some of the pumps themselves on eBay for like 80$ I think..aglfter I do the oil and get a new deep cycle batt for the boat I'll maybe pick one of those up
