    Default Larger in-boat speakers?

Has anyone upgraded their in-boat speakers from 6.5's up to something larger? JL MX770s look interesting.

    Thanks!

Is the room? For one larger diameter and two deeper depth?

That is a great premise. The added cone surface area of 7.7"s will give you improved midbass. Imagine a rim shot so dynamic that it can actually startle you a bit. It would also improve the integration between subwoofer and satellites.
Beyond the basic premise, I think that the JL Audio MX650 (6.5" version) is the most musically accurate in-boat coaxial available. The MX770 improves on the midbass extension.
Now the fit and installation is another issue. You need 7.75" of flat surface area plus depth. As I enlarged and upgraded the coaxial speaker I might also want to take steps to increase the rigidity of the mounting baffle. I'm skeptical in a '08 Moomba. Some people who went with an over-sized coaxial have totally replaced the existing coaming pockets with a new custom panel.

I guess I will pull my 6.5's and measure... I think depth is more of a problem in the bow than in the main cabin?

Jake, is that in an LSV or an outback or something? The interior is different than my XLV, I have two cabin speakers on each side, mounted under the cushion (in the "nook").
