    Default Replacing lost boat keys

Has anyone gone through the process of replacing their boat keys. I'm totally perplexed that I lost the "key" and the spare. I'm supposed to take my boat to the dealer my first engine checkup and I'm sure they will need to start the boat to bring it to operating temp. Would the dealer have like a set of master keys? Thanks

I am sure the dealer can start it somehow. May be just as cheap to replace the entire ignition assembly.

With that said I bet they can easily get a key.

Do you know how to hot wire it? I had to do it once when I got to the lake without the keys. Basically the back of the switch will have a "hot" wire with 12V from the battery, a "run" wire and a "start" wire. tie the hot and run together, then touch the start wire to the hot wire to crank the starter. It's really easy on a boat

I just had to buy a new switch for mine and I came with 2 keys. I don't see them telling you any other way to fix it than to get a new switch. $46 through the dealer and cheaper that the hour labor they'll charge to tell you so.

I have tried with zero success. We got just one set of boat keys when we bought the boat and AWS "misplaced" the others. It was a demo boat for them, so I am sure they got tossed in a car or drawer along the way somewhere and lost.

For the ignition key - I have tried 3 different lock smiths AND online. Best recommendation is to replace the ignition switch and get 2 new keys with that.

    Glove box they could duplicate.

Engine compartment lock - Again no-go. No one can find a key blank there. Out of luck unless replacing the latch.

Of all those, I really was only concerned about the ignition key since I like to always have a spare. Save some time and gas and just replace the ignition switch. Searching AMAZON they run less than $20 and free shipping for Prime members.

I just went to Amazon.com and searched on "boat ignition switch".

Here is one I found on ebay as well.

Perfect time to upgrade to a push button start. there are some cool kits that include a fob and it acts as the car sensers and if you within three feet you can start the boat. one kit has a wrist band that needs six inches so its a little safer, cool looking upgrade for $50, about as much as a new ignition.

forgot our keys for a trip one week. We took the ignition out of boat to a locksmith, and he found a motorcycle key that fit perfectly. $20 with a tip and left with 5 of them
