Indmar Question-Mechanical System Question
Ok. I am not going to throw anyone under the bus. And please hold an snide comments. I have a 2013 Mojo, 330 HP Indmar. When de-winterizing I instructed the dealership to have my boat lake ready, I am going to pick up the boat and go strait to the lake. Well so when I got underway at the lake motor begins smoking.
Well the dealership did not hook up the coolant system. I did not discover that until I had driven the boat about 1 minute with no water to cool the motor or exhaust. Needless to say I was not happy. Called them out to the lake. They hooked it up, said it did not appear to cause any damage and I went on the lake. Rode about 1 hour. Oh by the way there is about 15 hours on the motor.
Oil still appears clear. The amount of smoke was light. Like I said I ran about one minute. The exhaust was hot but did not appear to damage the fiberglass or rubber.
Please any advise? Questions I need to ask. Should I change the oil? (Was running on the new oil). Inspect the exhaust from the inside? Compression check?
Lesson number 2, check it yourself, don't rely on the other man.

Running the boat, for a short time will not hurt it. The impeller will take the most damage when no water is flowing in the cooling system.
You might insist on a new impeller. If you don't have water leaking ourt of the engine and the oil looks normal then don't worry about the minute or two you ran with no water.Malo <--- Means--Evil or Mean One. This explains a lot.

This would not be a insist on a new impeller, it would be a demand in my book. Keep the old one as a spare if it isn't cooked.

The smoke by the way was probably from the fogging oil in the cylinders burning off from the winterization process. Running it for a minute wouldn't have gotten it hot enough to cause smoke related issues.

Like Mike said....I would insist on a new impeller as it was run dry...... I would check the hose from the exhaust to the muffler....this is where heat can damage/deteriorate the hose quickly.....if it is good and stiff and no signs of leaking or heat softening you are most likely fine with no damage occurring..... a minute is not a long period of time to run the motor without coolant....did your screen flash at you??

I'd also have the oil changed as it breaks down when it gets hot.
