Default Installation of fuel water separator?

I have a question about installing a fuel water spearator on 07 OBV. I bought a Mercury fuel water separator from my Moomba dealer. It will be easy to install but I am stumped on one thing. The fuel water separator has 2 inlets & outlets? I am not sure if iam supposed to connect the return line into the fuel water separator or not? Has anyone else installed one that could provide some pictures or guidance. Any help is always appreciated.

I have one, just directly replaced the old fuel filter and capped the 2 unused ports. I can take a pic tomorrow if you needed one.

    As seen from the top:

It is difficult to remove the filter, last time I had to remove the fuel hoses going into the tank and bend them out of the way to get to the filter with a wrench.

    As seen from the side
