    Default Battery Recommendation?

All the circuits on wall above battery are closed. I just tried the screwdriver to the starter trick and all it would do is click (and spark!). Does this mean my starter is fried?

Static charge is just a hair above 12. This is with key in acc position.

Measure it at the battery using a volt meter, not the reading on a helm gauge. If its 12v, then the battery is bad or still needs charging.

All you hear is the clunk from the starter? Battery dead.. Should replace it.. don't bother with the real expensive brands they're all pretty much the same. Just be sure to use a trickle charger, I get mine at auto zone..

    Default Battery Recommendation?

Ok with no charger on the battery I am able to start it by touching screwdriver across bolts on the starter. What does this tell me? Bad ignition switch? Key works in acc position, all gauges turn on, beeps, etc. But when I turn all the way nothing happens. No groan, no turning over, no clicking.

If battery was shot, jumping the starter wouldn't have been successful, correct? Likewise, if starter was no good it wouldn't work even with screwdriver right? Thanks for all the help. I don't know this stuff now but enjoy learning.

Never mind. It all works. Somehow the throttle got bumped to where it was barely in gear. Not quite sure how that happened because you have to pull up first, but never the less that was the problem.

Very embarrassing lesson but hey, I learned a bit about starters!

Carry on. Nothing to see here.

I once jacked around pulling spark plugs out of an outboard for over 30 min. before I decided to start at the beginning and realized one of my 3 year old twin boys had pulled the lanyard loose. Doh!!!!!!!
My Mom said I'm not allowed to get wet!

Buddy did this with their brand new Malibu a few years ago. Floating down the river, kids out on the tube waiting to go. He's all over checking fuses, wires, ignition switch. The wives come out in my boat to tow us back in and right as they get to us he notices the throttle is just a hair off vertical. Pull, click, crank, vroom! The look on his face right as the girls pulled up on us ready to throw a rope was priceless.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?
