    Default Batteries

Ok I am thinking of adding two 6 volt batteries for my stereo. My question is has anyone ever ran 8 volt batteries? Most stereo equipment is rated at 14.6 volts so I don't think that it would hurt.

Two 8 volts would give you 16 volts and would cause all kinds of electrical problems. I'm not sure how your alternator would react either, my guess would be...not good. Stick with the 6v.
I think the 8v's are for 24v systems.

I was thinking a completely isolated bank just for the stereo.

You really can't do the 8 volt batteries because you have no practical way to charge them up to or maintain them at 16 plus volts. If you do not charge the batteries fully, then degradation will be accelerated.

IMO, the golf cart batteries are the way to go if you don't mind the weight. I've used them in my motor home for years and they will easy outlast any deep cycle battery. They like to be discharged slow and recharged slow. Costco has golf cart batteries for $90.

I know i was so pissed when i saw Costco had them, but to my surprise they only stock one at my costco and they wouldn't order me 2? WTH?

So fare i really like the batteries, as you mentioned on weight, yea they weigh a ton, Soo much so between the 3 batteries i have and my 4 amps, the boat is 300 lbs heavier on my Port side and actually leans a little in the water, so i have to compensate this weight when people want to wake board.

Its also messing more with the Goofy side surf because Goofy side doesnt like any counter weight at all.
Reguar side is slamming though LOL
