Default Ran a diesel out of fuel?

They warn you not to ever, ever, ever ever ever run a diesel out of fuel....

Well they don't warn you when changing fuel filters on a 6.4 that this very thing can happen.

I replaced the filters in my 6.0 all the time no issues.
I replaced the frame rail filter in my 6.4 last spring no issue.

Today after changing the oil, i replaced both the frame and engine filter.

    Here came my nightmare.

I bleed the low pressure line like it said, but evidently i didn't do it well enough.

I started the truck and everything was fine for 5 seconds. Then it stalled. No start.

I spent the next 2 hours bleeding low pressure line, high pressure lines, return lines, filter housing, every dam thing.

Finally got the truck to fire up for 10 seconds and it stalled Gawd ******

Rebleed it all again, started truck up and it was missing, hobbling along at idle, so i punched the skinny pedal, reved her up a few times and she settled down to a nice diesel purr. Let her run for about 10 minutes then shut her off.

WOW, now i stink of diesel fuel but my rig is running. At least now i know if im every Dumb enough to let her run out of fuel i can fix it.

Just wanted to share my afternoon LOL

Absolutely not, these new diesels don't like starting fluid LOL. I was told specifically not to use any of that stuff, it can literally blow my engine up.

Wolfeman, i was working in the engine, nothing soft to bounce a wrench off of to hit me in the face with LOL.

I have washed my hands and arms half a dozen times, and taken two showers and still smell like diesel fuel though LOL

HAHAHA maybe but where you got doused in the red stuff, i was doused in the slightly unclear stuff, i am how ever enjoying a couple of 16oz cold ones now that all my yard work, fence work, truck repairs are done.

I how ever did not get to the the boat ramp to run the boat and change the oil. I lost that time in the above problem.
I know i could use a Fake a Lake but if I'm going threw all the trouble of pulling the boat out of the garage, im going to the lake 20 minutes away LOL

Whenever you use gas, oil diesel, etc. and get it on you start with a good dish soap that is designed to attract grease. Wash a couple times with something like the green palmolive or dawn and then use your regular soap. It does help a lot.

I'd go to the "fuel" station if I were you ha ha
Get yourself a AirDogII and ditch the factory filter and housing. They are self priming pumps and push the fuel to the CP3 pump so it doesn't have to work as hard. Plus the AD2 filters are Micron2 rated.
