Default how my 1st oil filter change happened

    step by step

use boat for the day so oil is good and warm by the time its changed
    go home
    wipe boat down
    park in garage
    grab beer
    grab tools need for changing
    hop up into boat
    spread towels on seats
remove side engine board to access remote oil filter
    take swig of beer
    grab filter pliers
grip filter wrench with beer muscle death grip and pull hard
watch filter braket flex and filter not budge
take a big swig of beer, wipe sweat off forehead
grip filter wrech with beer muscle death grip and pull even harder
watch filter braket flex even more
look at filter and relize filter is crushing in and twisting
sit and think, take swig of beer
hop out of boat and grap all sae wrench's
    hop back in boat
start undoing remote filter housing so it can be taking to work and put in vise to remove damaged filter
figure out still need bigger 1 inch wrench to undue oil lines
hop back out of boat, grab 1" wrench
hop back in boat, take swig of beer, wipe river of sweat off head
apply 1" open in wrench to oil line and get loose
go to set wrench on towel but due to sweat getting into eyes hit box end of wrench on seat back and have open end smack face right above teeth
    swear loudly, swear more
wonder why now have red drops appearing on perfecty white seat back
touch hand to face and and hand covered in blood
grab paper towel to mop blood off face
start getting out of boat and leave trail of dripping blood to kitchen
grap more paper towels to stem flow of blood and go look at face in bathroom mirror
find nice little opening in skin
sit for 5 minutes with presure on face to stop blood
walk back to boat and clean seats back up
grab wrench and start again on oil line
get remote oil filter houseing off braket and very carefully set on towel so no oil comes out
    get out of boat
grab filter houseing from inside boat and set on tailgate of truck
take swig of beer and think about situation
take 8lb fishing line and try and work into filter gasket to break seal loose
    break fishing line
take 10lb fishing line and try and work into filter gasket to break seal loose
    break fishing line
finish beer and go grab another and put in pink Moomba cuzie cup to help keep cold
    wipe more sweat from head
grab razor blade and start cutting filter seal carefully
grab wd40, silcon, rc95 stuff and soak seal
    hop back into boat
reinstall remote filter houseing on braket
    grab filter wrench
    finish beer
with death drip on filter wrench start applying presure that feels like motor is going to come out of boat
slowly, ever so slowly relize filter is starting to loosen
in utter amazement, watch filter finally come loose
relize its been about 1.5 hrs and just now got filter loose
grab oil drain container and find full of old oil
    swear loudly
grab used oil container and set next to car so next day can take and empty
    turn fan and lights off
grab beer and go sit in pool to cool off
figure to finish the following weekend
wife informs that the boat is needed for following sunday for a friends party
swear internally and now know one day after work will have to finish up.

Default how my 1st oil filter change happened

Sounds like mine on the OBV, but blood was from knuckles, not face.

My recommendation for all new boat owners: don't leave the dealers lot until THEY spin the filter off/on one time.

I think it would be easier, to put the new filter on, go buy another, take the party out, and then change it after when its hot again.

Nice read, sorry about your face, sorry about the blood.

Way too much blood before way too little beer. Need to reverse the process next time. Easy Dracula. Gotta have the beer muscles built up way more to get that thing off.

Great story!! I'm tired and thirsty from reading it. My first oil change on new boat went pretty smooth. Now I'm praying I didn't over tighten the filter when I did it cuz I'm looking at doing the second change this weekend.

As long as you smear a little oil on the gasket and only hand tighten it, not Gorilla tighten you will be fin. Most dont realize the the way the filter is designed as the oil flows through it actually tightens the filter. Just like your Prop is shaped and rotational turn is in the Tightening direction of the shaft bolt. So it wont auto loosen

Still chucking about this one. Hope the pool didn't end up with a nice blood coated oil slick.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

Annnnd that is exactly why I let the dealer do it! It is worth whatever the cost to not have to go through that. NO THANKS!
