Can you tell me the diameter from mounting hole across to opposite mounting hole? That is the main concern with most of the 6.5's. I'd rather not add more to the budget at this point since I'm supposed to be looking for ways to pair it down.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

I don't have the perfect tool but holes are somewhere around 6 1/8. I wish Exile had same kinda doc as WetSound has it.

This sounds about right, but I cant say for sure, only a guestiment. The SX65M is the same as their automotive speaker, the SX65c, but with a grill mounted tweeter as opposed to the pole mounted on the "C". That manual is found with a google search and shows the grill to have a 6.7" OD, a 5.11 cutout. I would put mounting hole center to center somewhere around 6.2. Its not an overly heady speaker, so if the deck is thick and theres enough meat for the screws to bite, I think they would work, but I would still look at something better then just using the traditional wood screws. Backing plate, machine screws with nylock nuts and washers, etc. Having the mounting hole a snug fit to the basket helps support the weight. With an existing 6" hole, you dont have that advantage.

I just measured the exile 65M grill size. It's close to 6.8-7".
