Steering wheel controls?
Just curious but is there any boat out there with volume controls on the steering wheel, like in most cars these days?
I would figure this would make it a lot easier to control volume, mute, skip, etc rather than having to look down or to the side...
If not...DIBS.

in a marine environment, I'll take simple over more features.
just my .02...
perfect pass is a great addition, but all the electronic features are screaming for expensive repairs down the road.'06 Supra Launch 20SSV-gone but never forgotten

To me, stereo controls on the wheel would be more simple rather than a control head unit down below or to the right/left requiring you to take your eyes off where you are going.
Look at the SA..it's down below and to the right.
LSV, to your right side requiring you to turn.
I can't imagine it would be expensive if it was designed this way...

Great idea but in a boat you can turn the wheel several revolutions stop to stop and this might pose a problem.

Hmmm. If you're running in a place that is that crowded or tight I'd say you shouldn't be dicking around with the stereo at all. My wired remote is up by the steering wheel on the helm and with just a little practice I can adjust volume, mute, change tracks, and power off by feel without looking.
Edit-
No offense - that sounded a bit harsh!Last edited by bergermaister; 04-18-2013 at 03:59 PM.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

LOL, no worries. We don't ride in a crowded area at all but it was just something I was thinking about today coming back from lunch. Hands on the wheel, adjusted volume and changed songs and got me thinking why it isn't on a boat.
When I am pulling someone I make sure I worry about everything else before adjusting music, etc. But just stating, it would be practical and convenient for when wanting to adjust the tunes.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is standard on boats one day.

Switch to a Clarion HU and add one of these to your steering wheel!
Supposed to work up to 100ft away but in reality probably not. I'm probably going with Clarion again but I like the mounted remotes with LCD displays. Wonder if this would work from boarding distance or may just be good for being anchored up on the beach. So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

My stereo control is in the steering wheel. It sits in the spot where the moomba logo was and is just a snap fit control. Works ok , i believe its by clarion , can't check but will post pics some day if i ever get the boat UNBURIED from SNOW.

There used to be one manufacturer that offered some add on steering wheel controls. I think they were designed to fit behind the wheel. It may have been Kenwood?
