Ballast pump not pumping water...
So first day on the lake and my left rear pump is't pumping. It's trying to pump but nothing is coming out. On the water I took off the output hose to see if it was something with my hoses...turned on the pump expecting to get water out and nothing...the other two pumps are working fine. Obviously something has clogged the intake but how can I check that? Obviously when we get back on the trailer I can look and see of there is something there but if I don't see anything what else could it be?

Make sure your shut off valve is open , or sounds like you may need a new green impeller. Id also check to make sure there are no kinks in the tubing before or after the pump and clamps are tight.

Ballast pump not pumping water...
Valves are open....how can I determine if I need a new impeller? There aren't any kinks and all clamps are tight.

Ballast pump not pumping water...
Can you take the hose off the pump and blow through it? Without buying a spare impeller you could swap them between pumps.

Ballast pump not pumping water...
I didn't try the blowing method. I use all three pumps so Im not going to swap them. I'll just order a new one and hope it fixes the problem.

If you have a W709 pump kit, fill the sac manually with some water, then try to empty using the pump. If the impeller is toast, it wont drain well either. Next, pull the pump cover off and inspect the impeller. When you last used the boat, did you leave the pumps in the drain position, or did you run them in the fill direction for about 5-10 seconds to flip the impellers? This prolongs the life.

I think the thought here is the boat being on the trailer, you can drain bags with water but not fill them.
I dont think i agree with the running the pumps in the opposite direction to prolong the life if the impellers, either direction they are in will have pressure on them. To truly prolong the life of the impellers they need to be sprayed with a lubricant while in storage. i don't know anyone who does this. I just run mine till the pump makes the funny loud noise of sucking air and water as the bag is almost empty and shut it off. End of the season i remove all my impellers and spray them with bit light weight oil and plastic bag them.Malo <--- Means--Evil or Mean One. This explains a lot.

Joe,
Sorry for the late reply. Its common for the impeller to stick to the housing when the boat is put away for a period. If the impeller is left in the drain position from the last outing, the motor not only has to overcome the friction of flipping the impeller, but also a stuck (dried to the housing) impeller. So we recommend to run the pumps in the fill direction for a few seconds when the ballast is dumped for the last time. This gets the impeller flipped to fill direction for the next trip out. This has not need as wide spread a problem since the pumps have been coming with the green impellers, but it was with the rubber black ones. But, I still thinks a good habit to get into.
