    Default Boat Insurance

My wife and I were chatting about boat insurance policies and I'm curious what type of coverage others have. I'm not certain exactly what my policy is, but, I know it is the state required minimum which is around 25-50K of coverage.

My other question is what would be the 'owners' liability in the case a friend was to become injured while being towed behind your boat. For the sake of this discussion lets say the friend being towed knocked himself out after a hard fall and required further medical attention. Would the owner/operator have any liability in this instance if there was no negligance by the owner/operator?

Prob a great question for your insurance company but I'm betting it wouldn't be on the owner operator at all. I'm probably over insured at:

    - $500 emergency tow/service
    - $32k for hull and trailer
    - $500k liability
    - Medical $10k per person
    - Medical $50k per occurrence

A few summers ago I had a bad wipeout that eventually landed me in the ER. My boat but I was being towed, not driving at the time. Xrays, CT scan, feel good drugs, etc. all on the medical insurance. Not even a question about my mariner policy.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

You are probably the only person who is not covered. Make sure you have some uninsured boater coverage. That's the one you will find out you really need when some idiot does what idiots do.

Yeah, think I'll be making a call to check on that today. Thanks for the tip.

I have house, car and boat with the same company which qualifies for some good discounts. Also allowed me to cover all with a 1 mil blanket policy.
