Tach inop on my 99 Outback
I have a 99 outback with a 5.7 PCM 310hp carburated. The tach does not work. The red lights inside work but the tach needle won,t move. All other gauges work fine.
Any Ideas?

Mine is same year, though Indmar 5.7.
Tach wasn't waterproof. Got a little moisture in it about two years ago. Needle started binding at about 2000 rpm for a while, then after a few months, stopped moving.
Been running without for 2 years. Hour meter still works, though.
I think loss of motion was caused by corrosion inside in our case. Needs a new tachometer--- about $125 or so.
