Thread: Fuel Gauge

    Default Fuel Gauge

My fuel gauge on my 05 Outback does not seem to be accurate at all. When I fill the boat up it shows it to be full. After an hour or so of use it sticks on empty. Anyone have problems like this?? It is very frustrating.

Yeah the accuracy of the fuel gauges is an issue. I have found we burn about 4 to 5 gallons an hour while towing. 01’ Outback LS 310 Assault w/ about 800 lbs. of ballast and 3 to 4 adults on board.

I think I am going to cut a plexiglass window in my trunk floor so I can see the tank. The guage is really not even close to accurate. You would think they would put a couple of baffels in the tank so the thing would read at least a little accurate.

Great idea! You'll feel better if you can see the level.

With our outback, you slide the seat forward, remove one phillips headed screw, and pop-off the rear trim panel to see the actual tank level.

I agree with you, a few tank baffles would solve most, if not all, of this gauge uncertainty.

    Pictures?

I'm not sure if I have a problem yet. I know I can go a long way on E, that is a dangerous attitude.

If you want to try something that does not work, try editing some boat video. Two system crashes in two days. This is not worth the effort.

Another option would be to purchase a NavMan F2100 Fuel Flow Gauge for about $100. If you reset the guage after each fill up you will know exactly how much fuel has been burned.
