Default Underfill larger, or correct size

I am looking at some new bags for the back of a 203 LSV. The 400s look like they would fit in the comparment, which appears to be 45 x 20 x 20. The 7520 woud be too long (by 5 inches). Anyone have opinions on underfilling too large a bag, or right sizing it. I have a 30 x 16 x 16 in there now. so, I have to believe the 400s would be a step up..

Couple things I've struggled with having bags that are too long.
You may encounter bunching which can cause problems when it is time to drain.
You have to watch it fill every time since it won't let you know by overflowing out the vent when it's full.
I've had the front edge of the bag get stuck under the seatback and not fill as much as it could have before.

Going bigger is doable, just have to stay on top of it.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

That hull is the same as my '08 OBV and 750's fit in there perfect. Some folks have even gone with the 1,100's (see canucklehead's posts).

You sure bout that boss? Mine measures about 44" long as well, 18" high at the stearn, 20" high at the front. Most of the newer hulls seem to be 50" hence all the bags that are made that long. I'm wondering what year that changed.

Kinda sucks because you either deal with the bunching up issues or pony up double the price and get custom made bags. Going with smaller bags just isn't an option!

Bkearney - are your batteries in the rear compartment(s)?

Batteries are in the front. I measured the length of the compartment, and it is 45 inches. With that, I am assuming the 400s are the best option.

I'm not 100% sure they will fit as you pointed out, battery position may have changed, but I do think they were the same hull and I know my 750 fit, no problem.

That is the more expensive route depending on how much wake you want. Speaking from experience - went from 250lb hard tanks to 400 bags basically just because they fit. Then went to 750, then went to 1100's and deal with a little pushing and pulling to get them full as possible. Worth it for the big bad surf wave IMO.

Or cut through all the upgrading steps and just order custom. A little spendy upfront yes, but worth it in the long run. Kind of wish I would have done that knowing what I know now.
