    Default Shaft Packing

Wondering if anyone has changed to either a PSS Shaft Seal or a OJ Dripless instead of the normal rope packing.

I know they are not cheap but from what I understand they are suppose to help extend the shaft life and don't leak.

Hope everyone has a good weekend especially if you hit the lake.

how tough is it to replace the packing? second summer with my 97 outback and now she leaks through this packing I think you're refering to. is it a special packing? can I do it or is it something I should have a dealer look at?

    moombatim,

i was going to have it done if anyone can give me any good feedback (ie other moomba owners) if they work much better. i have heard off other websites that they last for years in comparision to the rope packing.

ed, i looked thru everything that brian has posted and have not found anything in regards to the pss shaft seal of the oj dripless.

i do know that discount inboard marine sales both. the oj is somewhat cheaper.

hope everyone had a safe holiday weekend. we got rained out most of the time.

Jeff, He blew his headgasket. Oil everywhere.

He in the past like to tell me he paid $49K for his 03.

But my simple 02 outback pulled him well.

I packed replaced my packing three years ago and only had to retighten the nut at the beginning of last year. I used the graphite inpregnanted cord. It doesn't break down like the wax does but rather spendy.

I called the marina and got the information. The company is Sepco and the marina here sells it for 75 cents an inch but you don't need much. You can call the marina here at 509.545.4051 and they can send it to you.
