being from Pittsburgh, it was typical to not give a hoot about college football.
Not even sure if there was a team.
If there was, nobody cared.
We have the Steelers.
Funny how it goes in the southern states - everybody cares about college football, but a very small percentage of those fans have any chance of being admitted to their favorite college.

Ed - We, too, have that problem in the North. The leading public school here in Illinois is the University of Illinois. Number of applicants for a recent freshman class was more than 23,000 kids, of which 16,000 were admitted to the university. In the group of those not admitted are literally hundreds of Illinois residents with GPAs well above 3.0 and high class rank. These kids end up at Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, because the people who run U of I instead accept applicants from all 50 states and foreign countries. Okay, so a family pays a lifetime of state taxes that underwrite the cost of operating U of I only to get no benefit when their kid, who has worked hard all throughout high school, comes of age to apply to college. Makes no sense. - Stuart

little different scenario here Stuart...when I first moved to Florida, average was 50% of all high school students graduated.
You get the point

yep, the folks down here in Florida wear the hats and T- shirts of their favorite colleges, but are just too damn stupid to get admitted to a community college as a janitor.
