    Is it common for the paint to melt on the manifold of a new engine?

    The boat I sold had a 5.0 ltr Merc in it and the paint was fine from the date I bought it to the date I sold it . It was a 1992 runabout with 365 hrs on it. In my opinion this doesnt sound normal espescially on a newer motor. Heres an idea, touch the manifold and you'll find out how hot it is!!

    This is very common and there is nothing you can do about it. You should'nt worry about it either it will not hurt anything it just gets VERY hot there.
