    Default Why is it that.....

    Here's my recent..

Why is it that anytime the batteries in your smoke detectors go out, it's never at 3 in the afternoon??

woke up at 2am this morning to one chipring every 30 seconds or so indicating the batteries are dead.. will have to inspect the wiring this afternoon and hope I didn't rip any out when I tore it off the ceiling of the living room

True and quite annoying! Amazing sense of timing those damn things have!

I have 9 foot ceilings in my house so you can imagine my frustration!

HAHAHA the new ones we have at the new house are up in the Vaulted section and have batteries plus hard wired. Low and behold there wired together as well so when 1 goes off they all go off.

Luckly they have one in the hallway i can reach a silence button.

I was told they make 10yr batteries for these?

this one was in a vault at 13ft. last house that had one go off was at the top of a 20ft vault. sucks to be in the garage at 2am hunting for a ladder, barely woken up and not dressed to be conducting such a search

I was going to say... walking around in your underwear searching for a broomstick and a ladder is not my idea of fun at 2am.

Son eating breakfast: Dad??? what does M-fer mean?

Me dumping my coffee: Not sure son, but I heard the smoke detector guy say it a whole bunch last night, I think thats what they call them!

Son 4 months later: MOM! the M-fer is going off again!

Mom gives dad the evilest of looks!

I've had the smoke alarm thing many times over the year. It's still nothing compared to the outright FEAR of the baby's heart monitor alarm tripping. When we brought our preemie twin boys home (11 years ago now) they were on heart/lung monitors for several weeks. If they stopped breathing or one of their hearts stopped beating a SHRILL alarm would sound. Well, every time the tape came loose on one of the sensors on either one of them two parents would have their own hearts stop as the alarm sounded and we'd dash into their room ready to perform CPR. It happened over and over again. I think we aged 20 years in 2-3 weeks that year.
