ok, I still have to pour gas directly into my Holly-4barrell to initially start my boat....after it runs for a bit it will stay running....then randomly when i trry to start all i hear is fast clicking sound....then after a few attemps, it will start....Starter/Sylinoid/both....which one!!!!! how to isolate? I am also guessing my fuel pump may need to be replaced as well? Not a seasoned mechanic....just know enough to be dangerous!

your fuel problem sounds like the oil pressure safety switch is bad. as far as the starter it is almost always the selinoid that goes bad. i had my starter rebuilt for $100. well worth it. you may also wanna check all the connections( Battery terminals, connections at starter, and oil pressure switch)
