Shoremaster Bunks Question
OK, dumb question for newbie boater.
I bought a used Shoremaster lift. The bunks are the blue fiberglass and aluminum rails. Are they OK to have in direct contact with my hull. It seems like they would be more likely to gouge my hull than carpet and wood. Plus the Shoremaster bunks are 4in wide. Carpet/wood bunks are wider which would seem spread the weight better.
Thanks

Welcome ScubaD. I don't think the 4 inch bunk width is too narrow. Your boat is fairly light. The important thing on the lift is to check the capacity rating. I would cover the bunks with something though.

Thanks for the prompt replies. The lift is 3600lb so I should be OK with capacity. I will just cover the bunks with some marine carpet.

What is the dry weight of your boat? Don't forget that you need to add in the weight of a full tank of fuel plus the weight of all your gear.

The m anual says 2450 dry. I figure that it should be under 3k lbs loaded.

I have my 2010 Outback on a shoremaster atop those same blue bunks, and for 10 years before that I had my last boat on those bunks, all without problem. Although I have not measured them, I would expect those bunks to provide somewhere around 1000 square inches of support (about 4" wide by 10' long x 2), so the weight on those bunks and on your hull would be only about 3 psi.

Excellent. I figured someone else had the same shoremaster bunks. After I finally get a boat, I would like to avoid doing anything too stupid to kill the summer before we even get started.
Although I have lots of time left......
