Exile SX12D sub - Thoughts
Looking for a sub to put in the boat. I have a Pioneer mono Block Amp sitting in my garage that pushes 400W RMS and 800W Peak that I will be using temporarilly. What are your thoughts on this sub?

Did you just ask this group their thoughts on Exile?!? LOL
I'm sure it is a great sub as it seems all of their gear is.
I would first ask yourself what you want from a sub and what type of box setup you want. Are you wanting to go open air? Do you want a large box under the helm? Do you want something that takes up no room? Oh, and how much $$$$
Box is a more important question than sub in a boat application, imo
fwiw, i run an alpine type r and am happy with it.2016 Moomba Mojo

I just saw it on ebay and it looked like a good price. A few buddies of mine run a Stereo shop in town so getting a box built isn't a problem. I know for sure I don't want to go open air. I'm going to take it by the shop when we get back in town tomorrow afternoon if we make it before 5 so they can check it out and get their minds going on what we can do to it.
I'm looking at the Alpine PDX 5 to run the cabin speakers and the tower and then a PDX 1.600 for the sub.....BOOM!

That is the amp i run on my sub.
Brian will likely chime in. I think he typically recommends his boxes for his subs, though.2016 Moomba Mojo

I'm running a SX12D currently and it's a great sub. I was driving it with the Class D channel on a Kicker ZX700.5 last year which was only 400w and even then it hit hard in one of Exiles custom LSV boxes. I'm sure it would still sound awesome in a smaller box, talk to Brian.
This season i'll be driving the SX12D with an Exile Xi1500.1, overkill? Yes, but i'll see what happens, I'll have to gain down a tad bit. I may have to jump to an Xi12D to handle the power, but then I can only play so loud with a full boat before I get smacked on the head anyway so we'll see. It's not a good thing when the bass hits and the weenie dogs start bouncing on the floor!2007 Mobius LSV

E4- The SX12 /12d is a good sub choice for the guy that is looking for a well rounded musical design that operates well i'n the small box environment. Power wise the alpine you mentioned would marry up to it well or if you wanted to step up a notch could power the Xi12d.
If your shopping on eBay, be careful your not buying someone elses problem. I'd much prefer seeing you buy someones used gear here i'n the forums because guys generally know each other. Sometimes nib on eBay means , "I wrecked my car so I pulled out my gear and shoved it i'n some boxes."
Let me know if you need some enclosure specs...
Cheers,
-Brian

Yeah, that is one thing I am weary of is buying car\boat stereo equipment from ebay. I don't want to get screwed with a bad item. Or it work for a couple weeks and then die and the warranty isn't any good.
How much does an Exile sub typically run and where do you all usually get yours from? *Edit* I also like the sx65c's does anyone have these and how do they sound. I have never heard of Exile until I jumped on this board. What amp would you recommend to push three pairs?Last edited by E4NASH; 04-01-2011 at 11:17 PM.

i have 2 pair of the SX65c's in my boat being pushed by a 800.4 exile amp. they sound good to me, i have not been able to get them to distort cause every time i crank the volume up my ears hurt before it gets to distortion.
i have XI12D exile subwoofer pushed by a 600.1 exile amp and maybe one day I will be able to tell you how that sounds tooDavid
