Crazy Engine Option
I just watched a video of the 2011 Malibu Sunscape 247 LSV on you tube. They are offering the Cadillac CTS V engine as an optional power plant for that boat. 550 hp supercharged 6.2L V8.
that is crazy. and this boat is just HUGE! must be nice to have 100k + to spend on a boat!David

mc has had caddy engines as options over the years in the xstar as the mid-level engine. granted, not the blown unit, but not surprising someone is using them. it's just a basic gm block with a blower. would be interesting to see the torque curve and see how usable the powerband really is for a wakeboat. the jet river boat guys here have had that engine option for a few years and you see blown engines in a large part of the cig. boat industry, but seems that they are meant more for top speed than towing a 6k boat with 5k in ballast/peeps out of the hole.

According to Indmar's ad in Wakeboarding mag the blown 6.2L CTS has 540 hp & 540 ft/lbs torque.

well the motor in the CTS makes 556 hp, not sure on torque. malibu was claiming 550 hp. but thats still nuts in a boat that is not made to go fast

I'd bet the real HP numbers are a bit higher. OEM's are known to under rate their published HP ratings and the CTS-V is rated at 556 hp and 551 tq. Those ratings are usually flywheel but they're also using significantly more acessory drives like power steering, A/C & bigger alt's. None of which we use and will bring up the numbers.
I'd love to hear one on the lake!2005 Air Nautique SV211 Team Edition

it's all about the engine torque, powerband and prop.
I get passed all day long on the lake by guys in 19ft bayliners with 170hp inboards when I have a 340hp indmar motor. now put on a different prop and some mods to the hull and I'll blow by them at 60+, but you need that hp and the 14" prop to get out of the hole and on plane when loaded up.
that 247lsv is a school bus of a boat, and to get it out of the hole fully loaded with peeps and ballast, it needs a healthy motor. the engine of choice for the xstar-a 21.5ft boat that is not mc's heaviest was the 450hp bigblock. a huge motor with tons of hp/tq for such a small boat, but needed for all the ballast most are running. heck, the x80 at 28ft, not that much longer than the 247 runs dual 350hp indmars and has an option for larger motors.
I say laugh at them when you pass them at the pump'06 Supra Launch 20SSV-gone but never forgotten

I agree 100%! Those malibus are about the slickest looking boats out there, they have the style, engines, and accessories that are just sweet. too bad i cant pick one up for under 40k lol.
and i like how they dont have that ugly ass "pickle fork" bow too. that thing is hideous.
i bet if you just swapped from a brass prop to a stainless you would gain a good amount of speed just based on the prop not flexing under a load. but God help you if you hit something with that thing.
the x80 is 3 feet 5 inches longer than a 247, thats a good bit! and ive seen an x80 in person...thats a ship, not a boat. anything that comes with a tripple axle trailer is insane.David
