    Default Wakeplate Gauge Acting Crazy

My wakeplate gauge doesnt work right but the plate itself works fine. The needle bounces around pretty much non stop, has anyone else had this problem.

I checked it out yesterday and noticed one of the wires that goes into the plug that plugs into the gauge is bare (has no coating). Is this how everyones is? Other than that I couldn't find any loose wires or anything. But when I plugged everything back in the gauge worked fine.
