Head Unit?

I want to replace an existing Pyle reciever, it seems to have a short or something in it (turns on/off at will, even on lower volume levels).

My boat was not designed to have a stereo so this is a retrofit. What I liked about the Pyle was it had a wired "remote" that allowed me to mount the head unit in the storage area behind the observers seat. Since it's behind a seat a typical remote will not reach. See pic below for what I have now




This is my boat, and I have limited space for another reciever so I'd like to have a wired remote to keep it clean. You can see the remote at the 9:00 position behind my steering wheel.




Any suggestions on a good reciever? I'd like to stay in the $100 to $150 range.

Almost all mfgrs have HU's and optional wired remotes for marine use. While none i know have a handheld remote, all are wired and mountable anywhere you'd like.

Example, my old Tige DD, I made a custom dash panel on the lower right to include additional switches, bass knob and HU remote.

Also, I currently have a Sony Xplod 600w amp. My Pyle db401 speakers (four in total) say they run 45 watts RMS and 135w peak. My Kenwood 12" sub is rated at 1200w.

Should I upgrade the amp right now or can I wait? If so, what amp?

Given that your HU is having issues i'd say that's a no-brainer to replace first. You can always replace pieces in stages if neccessary.

There's a lot of good HU's out there that will work, Kenwood, Clarion, Alpine, etc. They all have wired remotes.

I'm partial to Pioneer myself as they have all the neccessary goodies for a great price. Currently I use the DEH-P4200UB, has usb/ipod front panel input, three preouts and an easy format to learn for around $150 if you search the internet. The CD-MR70 wired remote will run around $50 and the CD-MR80 around $90 as well.

I see that it has blue tooth. Do you use that? What about a microphone, does it have one so it's truly wireless? That would be sweet to be able to accept calls on the lake, my phone is usually tucked away and I can't hear it.

That's the one. Can't say for the BT or wireless functions as i don't use 'em or want calls on the lake

I'd love to just buy a satellite reciever and just listen to XM. But I think you need a working stereo reciever in addition to the satellite

Take a look at the Clarion units. If I remember right they are a bit cheaper than the Pioneer and Kenwood pieces. I've been pretty happy with mine
