Hey guys,

I have a 2000 Outback LS. I decided to replace the cap, rotor and wires when getting it ready for the season. The tach doesn’t operate right.

I did find a black wire wrapped around one of the plugs on the distributor. It looks long enough to get to the cap or the coil. But I’m not sure if that’s where it goes. I’ve attached a photo of the wire.

The video won’t upload. But the tach bounces about 1/4 of the way around and then settles at 1,000 even when the motor is off. With the motor running, the gauge is erratic.

I also noticed the temp gauge starts high and then after a few minutes it drops to normal.

I’m guessing the controller may be on its way out.

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks so much.
